2021 was an exciting year for the Turkish TV market with many newcomers, which will continue in 2022.
Looking back at the Turkish TV industry, we see new actors joining the competition in 2021.
- Three new national TV channels were established – Flash TV (entertainment), Sözcü TV (news), and Vav TV (religious).
- EXXEN, founded by the owner of TV8, Acun Ilıcalı, and GAIN, an independent venture, entered the VOD market and quickly made themselves a name. In addition, Disney Plus and HBO Max, which have been rumored to enter the Turkish market for a while, have also started recruiting for Turkish platforms, soon to be launched in later 2022.
There have also been concerns raised that due to the devaluation of the Turkish lira, local TV channels might have difficulties in paying their satellite rents, which might put their existence in danger.
